By 2006, there were 13 townships (towns), 166 villages and 3 communities. Jingdong Yi Autonomous County is a key production area for grain, sugar, wood, walnut and mango in Yunnan Province. The “granary meat warehouse” in Pu'er City is one of the main producing areas of Pu'er tea. There are two national-level nature reserves of Wuliang Mountain and Ailao Mountain, and two large-scale hydropower stations of two million kilowatts in Manwan and Dachaoshan. Wuliang Mountain and Ailao Mountain retain one-third of the national species, and the black-crowned gibbons that live in the protected area are the only ones in the world.
