The government of Delingha City was established in 1988 as the political, educational, scientific, and cultural center of the Haixi Mongolian Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province. It is also the center of the eastern economic zone of Haixi. Delingha City has jurisdiction over 3 streets, 3 towns and 1 township of 27,700 square kilometers. The urban area is 2,980 meters above sea level. As of 2012, it is nearly 100,000. There are 19 ethnic groups including Mongolia, Tibet, Hui, Salar, Tu, Han and so on. The Mongolian people are the main ethnic groups. The mineral resources discovered in Delingha City have 16 varieties and 65 deposits, of which the proven limestone reserves are more than 700 million tons, and the available value is higher. The Bohai Lake, 30 kilometers south of the urban area, is rich in natural brine shrimp resources. In 2013, Delingha City completed a regional GDP of 4.96 billion yuan.
