The county government is stationed in Xinhuang Town. It is located in the west of the middle and low hills of western Hunan, and is connected to the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in the west. The highest peak Tianlei Mountain is 1136 meters above sea level. There are many streams in the territory, forming many valleys and flats. The tributary dance water in the upper reaches of the Minjiang River flows through the northern part of the county.
