It is located at the east bank of the county, on the bank of Dongyang River, 238 kilometers away from Fuzhou, the provincial capital. It is the political, economic and cultural center of the county. At the end of 2012, the county governed 6 towns, 3 townships, 141 village committees, 5 communities, and 2 neighborhood committees with a household registration of 203,600.
