It is in the south of Gansu Province and the eastern part of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. On the northeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is the junction of the agricultural area and the pastoral area, the Tibetan area and the Han area. Lintan County is 1557.68 square kilometers. It is an alpine hilly area with an altitude of 2209-3926 meters and an average elevation of 2825 meters. The county has jurisdiction over 16 townships (towns), 141 villages, and 150,000 people (2011). There are 10 ethnic groups including Han, Hui, Tibetan, and Mongolian, and ethnic minorities account for 26%. Lintan County has the national AAAA level scenic area Yeliguan, Huangzizi National Forest Park, Lianhuashan National Nature Reserve, and provincial geological park.
